Timetable

PE days:

The children have one set PE lesson each week. The children will need to bring in their PE kit on their PE day. In Year 5, the children will take part in a swimming lesson each week for a number of weeks in the first three terms, which replaces their set PE lesson for those weeks. The first class swimming this term is Chippenham class; therefore, children in Chippenham class do not need to bring into school their PE kit. They will need a swimming kit with them in school on a Thursday, starting from Thursday 11th September.

Homework Expectations

In Year 5, the children will be set weekly Maths and English homework that is linked to their learning in class. As well as this, your child will come home with termly spellings that are split into weekly word lists. These are expected to be learnt and practised at home and are then tested in class every Friday. Your child may be sent times tables homework weekly, which will focus on a specific times table your child needs to work on. The children will then be tested on their times tables facts once a week on a Friday.

The Maths and English homework will be set and handed out on a Thursday and expected to be handed in on Wednesday of the following week.

In Year 5, we do expect your child to be reading, ideally every day; however, the expectation is that they read at least (if not more!) 3 times a week at home. These reads should be recorded in their reading record.

Expectations

  • Children to complete their homework independently and that it is stuck into their homework book.
  • Children to complete their homework in either pencil or a blue pen (if they have a pen licence) and to the best of their ability.

The homework is handed in on time – if it is not, your child will be asked to complete the homework in part of their break time on Wednesday.
